Geyse Leaves Manchester United
Brazilian forward Geyse has officially left Manchester United on loan, heading to Gotham FC until November. This move comes after she talked about her tough time at United, calling her experience “agonising and lonely.” At 26 years old, she’ll now be playing in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) for the full season, pending international clearance. Gotham FC also has the option to make the transfer permanent. Geyse Confirms Manchester United Exit.

Issues at Manchester United
Geyse joined United from Barcelona in August 2023 for a record fee but has had a hard time getting regular playing time. Last season, she made 21 appearances, but this year, it’s been just nine matches with six starts. Geyse Confirms Manchester United Exit.
Things got tougher for her when she took time off in January after her brother tragically passed away in a car accident in Brazil. When she returned to the field on March 2, she came on as a substitute in a 2-0 win against Leicester. Despite being back, she felt unhappy with her role under head coach Marc Skinner.
Geyse’s Heartfelt Statement
Earlier this month, Geyse shared her feelings on social media about her time at Manchester United, talking about how hard it has been for her. Geyse Confirms Manchester United Exit.
> “Staying in a place where we don’t feel happy is an agonising and lonely feeling. Every day seems heavier, and just being there becomes a burden,” she wrote.
She described the club as feeling unwelcoming, making it tough for her to find peace. Her comments led to talks about her future, and Manchester United quickly worked out a move that would be better for her well-being.
Matt Johnson, interim head of women’s football, acknowledged this in a statement:
> “The loan deal is important to Geyse as we continue to have her wellbeing at the centre of our decision-making. We wish her well with Gotham.”
A New Chapter at Gotham FC
Geyse is now taking on a new challenge in the United States with Gotham FC, the current NWSL champions. The club made it to the semi-finals of last year’s playoffs but lost to the Washington Spirit on penalties.
Speaking about her move, Geyse shared her excitement:
> “I am very happy and excited to join Gotham FC for this season. I chose Gotham FC because they have a winning profile and a lot of ambition to win titles. I can’t wait to wear this jersey and enjoy the field with my new teammates. Let’s go Gotham!”
Her arrival is sure to boost Gotham’s offense, and she’s ready to make an impact in a new league after a tough time at Manchester United.
