The Ghana Education Service (GES) is expected to make a final decision about the reopening of the Bawku and Bolgatanga Technical Institutes, which were closed after a disturbance.
The Regional Minister of the Upper East said that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) made the decision to close the schools to protect both people and property.
In an interview with Citi News, he said that proper security measures had been put in place in the schools to keep more damage from happening and to help students in their last year take their final exams.
“We closed the schools because of the state of insecurity. We didn’t want to lose any lives, so we have security agents in the schools. As to the reopening of the schools, that decision has to come from the GES, but we at REGSEC have done our part. “

In the meantime, the leadership of the Parent Teacher Association of the Bolgatanga Technical Institute will visit the school later today, Monday, August 8, 2022, in an effort to find a permanent solution to the problem.
The Upper East REGSEC closed both the Bolgatanga and Bawku Technical Institutes in response to student disturbances over suspected test cheating.
Tuesday’s rioting at the Bolgatanga Technical Institute resulted in the arrest of four students.
During the violence, school and employee property were damaged. No arrests were made, however, at the Bawku Technical Institute.
Parents and students have petitioned for the reopening of schools for seniors, especially since female students are now exposed to a variety of threats.
