New School Year to Begin in September 2025
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has published the official academic calendar for basic schools nationwide for the 2025/2026 academic year. This comprehensive schedule applies to Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools.
The academic year is set to commence on September 2, 2025, and conclude on July 24, 2026, according to a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations at GES, Daniel Fenyi.
Key Dates and Examination Periods
One of the most significant features of the new academic calendar is the confirmation of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scheduled for May 4 to May 11, 2026.

In addition, GES announced that each school term will include a two-day mid-term break, and public holidays will be observed throughout the academic year.
Stakeholder Preparedness Urged
GES is encouraging all stakeholders—school heads, teachers, students, and parents—to familiarize themselves with the new calendar and plan accordingly.
The Service also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the just-ended 2024/2025 academic year, which concludes on July 24, 2025, for their dedication and collaboration.
