The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the families and communities mourning two national tragedies: a military helicopter crash on August 6, which claimed the lives of eight dignitaries including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and a separate road accident in late July that killed 16 youth returning from a church event.
In a press statement, the ministry described the helicopter crash as a “painful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve our country,” urging Ghanaians to stand united.
It called for compassion during this time of national sorrow, saying, “This loss is a wound that goes beyond institutions, a grief felt in every mother’s tears, every child’s question, and every stunned silence echoing across the nation.”
The ministry also offered sympathies to the families of the 16 young church members who were killed in a head-on collision with a fuel tanker.
“Words may never be enough to heal such pain, but we stand firmly behind the grieving families in prayer, support, and shared sorrow.”
Emphasizing its role in supporting affected families, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment noting, “The Ministry affirms its commitment to walking with the affected families through this dark moment and beyond.”
Concluding the message, MoGCSP highlighted the enduring legacy of the departed emphasizing that “Their legacies … will not fade away. Their aspirations for a just, safeguarded, and equitable Ghana will be upheld passionately and faithfully.”
This dual tragedy comes at a fragile time for Ghana amid the helicopter crash that shook the nation and a devastating accident that claimed young lives, the ministry calls for unity, healing, and dignity as the country grieves.
