The University of Cape Coast Chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA-UCC) has launched its week-long professional week with a call on members to continue to grow the association.
The launch of the week-long professional celebration was held on the theme ’Advancing good corporate governance, and ethical leadership in Ghanaian higher education institutions, for sustainable development’’
Speaking at the launch, Director of the Directorate of Human Resource at the University of Cape Coast, Rev. Isaac Baafi Sarbeng urged GAUA-UCC members, to embrace their potential, overcome apathy, and commit to the organization’s growth and positive impact.
He said this would allow others to benefit from the sacrifices of those who had made the association vibrant.
He added that members should be committed to the Associations’ professional and welfare development.
Additionally, Rev. Isaac Baafi Sarbeng called on the association to consider having a legacy project on campus.
He proposed that with the pool of technical professionals available to support, GAUA-UCC should consider building a modest hostel for students, possibly an alumni or medical hostel.
“We have the professional men. We have architects who can draw or design the buildings for us. We have the quantity surveyors around. We have the planners around and all other professions.
So, this is something I want to bring forward so that you think about it as we are launching our professional week.”
President of the GAUA-UCC, Felix Adu Poku commended the association’s choice of this year’s theme saying it is “appropriate because of the exigency of time and the fact that as professionals we need to always gear towards excellence.”
He emphasized that the association is committed to promoting best practices in university administration, fostering professional development and creating platforms for network and collaboration.
He, therefore, said the association deserves to be celebrated for its numerous achievements over the years.
He also encouraged all administrators in the university community to gear up and fully participate in the week-long celebrations to educate themselves and release some stress after a hard day’s work.
“This professional week is a testament of our unwavering commitments. The activities lined up for this week are designed to enrich our knowledge.
Of course, we need to de-stress, the job is not easy. And we are to be inspired by our collective collaboration and network here and also, we will listen to some health talk and I want to entreat all of us to participate fully in all the activities that we have lined up for this week.”
He, however, urged members to not only celebrate the association’s achievements but be encouraged to renew their commitment to the growth of the association.
Launching the week, the Registrar of UCC, Mr. Jeff Teye Onyame described the week-long professional celebration as ‘mouthwatering’ and urged every member to actively participate in the activities line-up for the week.
He said they should embrace the celebration with enthusiasm, pride and a shared purpose.
“Let us put aside every other thing and do what we have to do, let us do it for ourselves, nobody will do it for us.
I want to believe that all of us will be part of it. Let me say that I have the singular honour to declare our week, your week, our GAUA week duly launched.”
