The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has successfully evacuated three Ghanaian traders who were injured in a deadly terrorist attack in Burkina Faso that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaian tomato traders.
The attack occurred on Saturday, February 14, 2026. In a press statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, GAF said the evacuation formed part of a coordinated humanitarian and security mission by the Government of Ghana to assist affected citizens and ensure their safety.
The mission, executed by the Ghana Air Force on Tuesday, February 17, saw the injured traders airlifted back to Ghana for urgent medical attention. Upon arrival in Accra, the victims were immediately transported to the 37 Military Hospital for further medical assessment and treatment.
According to the statement, the operation involved close collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ghana Armed Forces to guarantee a swift and secure evacuation.
The military emphasised that the move underscores the government’s continued commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of Ghanaians abroad, especially in regions facing terrorism and armed conflict.
Expressing sympathy to the bereaved families, GAF stated: “The Ghana Armed Forces extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, prays for the repose of the souls of the deceased, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.”
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the attack, but the incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Burkina Faso, where terrorist activities have escalated in recent years.
