The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has broken its silence over recent allegations of drug trafficking at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), issuing a strongly worded rebuttal and warning of possible legal action against those spreading what it describes as “malicious and baseless claims.”
In a press release dated April 8, 2025, the company firmly denied assertions made by the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who alleged that two aircraft recently landed at KIA with illegal substances onboard.
GACL described the claims as “false, unfounded, and damaging” to its reputation, emphasizing that thorough security checks conducted by Aviation Security and National Security found no trace of illegal cargo on the said aircraft.
“All aircraft entering Ghana are issued landing permits by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and National Security—not GACL,” the statement clarified, distancing the company from any responsibility in that process.
Ground handling for the aircraft was reportedly managed by Swissport Ghana, while all standard protocols, including security screenings, were adhered to.
The Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, was also dragged into the controversy, prompting the company to issue a categorical denial of any interaction between her and Rev. Ntim Fordjour.
“The Managing Director has never met, spoken to, or had any dealings with the MP in question,” the company stated, further challenging those making the allegations to present credible evidence.

GACL also served notice that it would not hesitate to pursue legal redress against any individual, media house, or organization that continues to circulate the “false and injurious” claims.
“These fictitious and malicious allegations are not only an attack on GACL but also an attempt to undermine the credibility of Ghana’s aviation sector,” the statement read.
The company urged the public to disregard the allegations, reiterating its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of security and professionalism at the Kotoka International Airport.
