Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, has failed to appear in court for the second time.
ASP Sylvester Asare, Police Prosecutor, informed Kaneshie District Court 1 that the Court had issued a hearing notice on Parliament and questioned whether it had been replied to.
However, in response to the hearing notice, a letter written by a Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Eric Owusu Mensah, and delivered to the Registrar of the Court on November 10, 2021, highlighted that Mr. Sosu was still on Parliamentary duty, and therefore out of the jurisdiction.
According to the letter, Francis-Xavier Sosu is “attending the proceedings of the 3rd Meeting of the 1st Session of the 8th Parliament, which commenced on Tuesday 26th November 2021, and is also currently representing Parliament and the country in a conference in the United States of America.”
According to the letter, Speaker Bagbin is “unable to bring the service to the attention of the Member of Parliament as requested” due to constitutional limits.
The case was later rescheduled until November 26, 2021.
The MP was out of the country on Parliamentary business and was unable to appear in court last week, despite a series of unsuccessful police arrest efforts.
His attempted arrests generated a political uproar about his immunity as a Member of Parliament.
