Former President of the Association of Bankers and CEO of Stanbic Bank, Mr. Alhassan Andani has bemoaned the recent attacks on the security of bank personnel in the country.
According to him, “there has been an escalation in the security situation in the country in the last few years”.
He specifically refers to the last quarter of the year 2020 as a period that was characterized by series of armed attacks on banks, adding that nothing has been done yet to curb the situation.
“Towards the last quarter of 2020 there were brazing armed attacks on banks especially in the Tema area and there’s been no arrests yet”, he said.

Expressing displeasure on the latest attack involving the death of a security officer, Mr. Andani called on banks to invest in proper security equipment to ensure the safety of their personnel.
“Certainly the banks should spare no cost in ensuring that they have the right vehicle to protect the personnel who carry out this essential service”, he said.
He added that regardless of any security measures taken by the banks, the onus lies on the government to deal with general security in the country, which according to him is deteriorating.
“Government should improve the security situation because this incident happened in the broad day light, right in the middle of the city, and this shows that our city security situation in the country must improve”, he concluded.
