Richard O. Commey, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight Champion, has been banned for two years by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
In an interview with Kpalogo Mashi TV in the United States of America (USA), he made baseless allegations and disparaging comments regarding the GBA Executive, earning him a two-year suspension .
“The GBA hereby imposes on you a complete exclusion from all GBA organized events and associated operations for a term of two years beginning on March 31, 2021,” according to a letter signed by Mr. Peter Zwenes, President of the GBA.
Commey will not be able to stage any fights in Ghana for the next two years, nor will he be allowed to join any GBA-organized fights or events in Ghana.

“It is anticipated that the haughty and dismissive stance that you have taken against fellow members of the boxing community in recent times will end in the wake of the decision,” the letter said.
The decision was made after the GBA Disciplinary Committee met on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, according to the GBA President.
Commey’s admission of remorse, apology, and the involvement of Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse in mitigating his punishment were all taken into consideration by the GBA, according to the statement.
