Five Burkinabé soldiers were killed in the north of the country when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device, the army said in a statement.
One more soldier was wounded during a reconnaissance mission on Wednesday.
The Burkinabé army said it immediately mobilized ground and air reinforcements to evacuate the victims and carry out security operations in Mentao where the attack occurred.
Six members of the security forces were recently killed in eastern Burkina Faso while escorting fuel tanks for a mining company.
About 2.000 people have been killed in similar attacks often attributed to al-Qaeda and other militant groups.
