Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang stands tall among the list of persons likely to be selected to partner flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama as running mate.
Mr Mahama is expected to announce his running mate today 6th July 2020 ahead of the December polls.
If she succeeds, the former Minister of Education who is the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast will be the first female running mate for the National Democratic Congress.
Other names that have come out as the possible choice of running mate include Dr Isaac Bannerman Nii Moi Thompson, former Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour, and Alex Segbefia former Minister of health.
The unveiling of the running mate is expected to be made later today when the National Executive Committee (NEC) meets.
Close sources to the Mr Mahama’s campaign team have hinted the high possibility of choosing Prof Opoku Agyemang is intended to break the cycle of male running mates and getting more females into mainstream political decision-making in line with the party’s policy.
Other names that have come up include ex-Finance Minister, Prof. Kwesi Botchway, the former boss of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), Mr Kwame Awuah Darko, former Interior and Agriculture Minister, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) as well as the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Alex Mould, were also on the list.
