President Akufo-Addo has appointed Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta as the caretaker at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
This was after the Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kyerematen personally informed President Akufo-Addo of his resignation on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
A statement from the Office of the Presidency on January 6, 2023, indicates that President Akufo-Addo has accepted Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation and is grateful for the Trade minister’s services to his government and the country at large.
As such, the President wished him well and asked, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta to act as caretaker until a substantive appointment is made.
His Resignation
Alan Kyerematen resigned from his position as the Minister of Trade and Industry.
Multiple sources say he tendered his resignation to the presidency on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
It is however not clear the reason for this resignation but reports have it that he wants to focus on his presidential ambition.
Mr. Alan Kyerematen popularly to known as “Alan Cash has since 2017 served as the Minister for Trade and Industry of the ruling NPP government.
In 2007, he attempted leadership of the NPP and captured 32.3% of votes cast to become the first runner-up to Nana Akufo-Addo who gained 47.96% of votes cast.
He however made similar attempts at the party’s leadership in 2010 and 2014 and still placed second to Akuffo-Addo who won the primaries in both instances.
