Executive Director of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Ghana, Susan Aryeetey has called for a support system from health facilities and faith-based organizations in the country on issues of infertility.
She bemoans the social conceptions that surround infertility and the lengths women especially go to in their bid to have children of their own.
Speaking to the media on the recent issue of the alleged fake pregnancy saga, Madam Aryeetey said it is about time the country gave serious attention to the issue of infertility through counseling in both hospitals and churches.
“When it comes to counselling, even at the hospital, we need to make sure that we counsel both men and women for them to understand. We must even start before the start of the marriage and inform them that these are issues that may happen and the man needs to be a little bit understanding.”
She stressed that the support systems must be there to encourage childless couples.
Madam Susan Aryeetey further advocates a public education to do away with societal misconceptions of infertility.
