A fetish priest was given bail in the amount of 150,000 Ghana cedis by a Koforidua circuit court presided over by Mrs Mercy Adei-Kotey, with two sureties, one of whom must be justified for holding fraudulent money and defrauding by false pretence.
Richard Vormawor, 43, also identified as Nana Buame, pleaded not guilty to the accusation of preparing to commit a felony, namely defrauding by false pretense, and is scheduled to appear in court again on May 6, 2021.
According to Chief Inspector Owusu Ababio, the details of the case is that the Koforidua district police command had recently been inundated with accusations of citizens being defrauded by a fetish priest under the guise of doubling money for them, placing the police on high alert.
Around 1300 hours on April 4, the claimant, Police General Lance Corporal Eric Akpai, was on duty at the Nkurakan barrier near Koforidua when he saw the accused on board a Hyundai mini bus headed towards Koforidua.
The car was intercepted, and a search found seven bundles of 20.00 Ghana cedis notes and two bundles of 10.00 Ghana cedis notes in the accused’s hands, both of which were believed to be counterfeit.
During his cautioned speech, he disclosed that the bundles of money were very simple white papers that he had cut in the shape of 10 and 20 Ghana cedis notes covered with initial cedi notes.
When asked about his intentions, the accused could not give any concrete reasons, according to the prosecution, implying that he was on a mission to defraud the unsuspecting public with an old trick.
He was charged with the crime and arraigned in court during an inquiry.
According to the evidence collected during the inquiry, the accused had recently moved from Takoradi to Koforidua Zongo to work as a fetish priest.
The accused had not been willing to pay the bail bond at the time of filing this paper.
