A 42-year-old farmer named Anas Ibrahim was given a 22-year prison sentence by a Dambai Circuit Court for inflicting cutlass wounds on his pregnant wife in Banda, in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region.
Under Osman Abdul-Hakeem’s leadership, the court found the accused guilty based only on his own plea and punished him appropriately.
He received consecutive sentences of five, seven, and ten years for each of the following offenses: assault, numerous cutlass wounds, and attempted murder.
On May 28, 2024, on a farm near Banda, Anas gave his pregnant wife many cutlass wounds without provocation, according to the prosecution’s Detective Chief Inspector S. K. Gavor.
He stated that investigations revealed that the suspect broke into his wife’s home at about 0100 hours without her knowledge and pounded on the door but did not gain admittance.

He said the following morning, the suspect ambushed the wife and butchered her severally, and was taken to the Banda Health Centre and later referred to Kpandai Polyclinic for further medical treatment.
Chief Inspector Gavor stated that the victim has subsequently been released from the hospital.
Anas, in reaction to the allegations, stated that he had no intention of butchering his wife on the farm, but she fractured his head with a stick, resulting in blood seeping out, which enraged him enough to attack her.
