A 62-year-old suspect, who was formerly employed as a female fire officer, is being held on suspicion of defrauding under false pretenses.
According to DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), the suspect, Kate Eva Boateng, took GH27,000 from her victim, Mary Konama Antwi, in New Akim Tafo and offered to assist her in recruiting her three children into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
After a year, the suspect failed to keep her promise.
The police were notified of the incident, and she was arrested and detained.
Since then, her victims have been going into the Kukurantumi charge office to file police complaints.
Five further residents of Akim Tafo have reported to police that the suspect received a total of GH29,500 from them to assist them in obtaining recruitment into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The victims detailed how all attempts to locate the perpetrator had been fruitless until Thursday, November 11, when she was apprehended.
The Eastern Regional Police Command urged the public to refrain from providing financial assistance to those seeking recruitment into any of the security services.
