Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk says his team need to assess themselves after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Two goals away from home to Merseyside neighbours Everton meant that Liverpool took a step back in their pursuit of another league title since 2020, with Manchester City and Arsenal looking like real candidates for England’s top-flight prize.
Speaking to the press about Liverpool’s performance and lack of cutting-edge against the toffees, Van Dijk expressed his disappointment with his team, indicating that a critical check is needed if they want to fight for the league title.

“If we play like this, we’ve no chance to consider ourselves in the title race. Everyone has to look in the mirror and look at their own performances if they really give everything and ask if they wanna win the league?!”, he told Sky Sports.
Liverpool lie in second place of the league log with 74 points. Three behind leaders Arsenal, and a point clear of champions Manchester City who have two games in hand.
The battle for the league is far from over. However, with four matches to the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp’s team have their chances dwindling, and a reaction is expected in their coming matches to boost their chances of winning their 20th Premier League trophy.
