Energy Minister John Jinapor has urged Ghanaians to remain patient as the government works to resolve the country’s ongoing power supply challenges.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Thursday, February 20, 2025, he attributed the erratic electricity supply to a fragile energy sector inherited by the current administration.
Mr. Jinapor assured the public that long-term measures are being implemented to stabilize the power supply, predicting improvements within the next few weeks.
“We inherited a very weak energy sector, and that has contributed to the current issues, however, we are actively working on solutions to ensure reliability, and in the next two weeks, we expect to see positive changes,” he said.

The minister explained that some of the recent outages were due to system constraints rather than a nationwide power crisis.
“There are isolated outages caused by maintenance work and grid challenges. We are working hard to address them comprehensively,” he added.
Mr. Jinapor pointed to the October 2024 maintenance of the West African Gas Pipeline as a major setback that further disrupted gas supply to power plants.
“The system we inherited was already facing challenges, and external factors like the West African Gas Pipeline maintenance have only worsened the situation,” he explained.
Despite these setbacks, the government has been working on alternative solutions, including increased investment in energy infrastructure and renegotiation of power agreements.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the issues and called for public support.
“We understand the frustration, but I assure you that we are doing everything possible to restore stability to the power sector,” he emphasized.
