Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Anomabo Fisheries College, a project first conceptualized by the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and later advanced by former President John Dramani Mahama in 2013.

In an interview with Peace FM, the Minister revealed that the 2025 national budget has made specific financial provisions for the fisheries sector, with part of the allocation earmarked to fund ongoing construction works on the college.

She noted that while the initial goal was to complete the facility this year, current projections indicate that the project will be ready for commissioning within the first three months of 2026.

Her comments followed a parliamentary inquiry from the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Shirley Kyei, who sought updates on the status of the long-delayed project, which has been under development since 2013.

Minister Arthur emphasized that the completion of the Anomabo Fisheries College remains a key priority for the government, noting that it forms part of efforts to strengthen capacity building, research, and innovation in Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.

She added that once completed, the institution will serve as a centre of excellence for fisheries training and sustainable resource management, equipping young professionals with the skills required to modernize the industry and boost Ghana’s blue economy.
