Billionaire Elon Musk has expressed regret for some posts he made about U.S. President Donald Trump during their recent social media feud. “I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” he stated on his platform, X.
The two were involved in a public fallout after Musk referred to Trump’s tax bill as a “disgusting abomination.” This statement followed Trump’s announcement that their relationship was over and he had no desire to repair ties with Musk.
The controversial budget, which includes significant tax breaks and increased defense spending, was passed by the House of Representatives last month and is currently under Senate consideration. Musk urged Americans to contact their representatives to “kill the bill,” arguing it could lead to a recession later this year.
Additionally, Musk made unsubstantiated claims linking Trump to unreleased government files tied to the late Jeffrey Epstein, which the White House dismissed. In response, Trump accused Musk of “losing his mind” and threatened to cancel government contracts with Musk’s companies, valued at approximately $38 billion, a significant portion of which goes to SpaceX.
Trump criticized Musk’s remarks, saying, “You could not disrespect the office of the president,” during an NBC interview. Over the weekend, Musk deleted several posts, including one calling for Trump’s impeachment and another suggesting he won the election for Trump.

Previously, Musk had been the largest donor to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and was seen as a close ally. Former Trump aide Steve Bannon even called for Musk to be deported. U.S. Vice President JD Vance expressed hope for Musk’s return to the fold, though he acknowledged the difficulties given Musk’s extreme statements.
Most Republicans have urged reconciliation between the two, while Democrats have observed the feud unfold. This conflict arose shortly after Musk’s brief tenure at the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), which lasted just 129 days.
