The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has made a case for prioritizing and investing in education in Ghana.
The Union believes one of the ways to achieve the SDG on education is by investing in education.
Speaking at the Informal Section at the 56th Delegates Congress of NUGS, the Executive Officer in charge of all education related issues of all Ghanaian students from pre tertiary to PhD who is serving under NUGS, Mr Ransford Tenge indicated that as a country, there is the need to prioritize and invest in education so that there will be much funds at the Students’ Loan Trust Fund to support needy students through their education.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson for the open forum session of the Congress, Dr. Richard Ampofo Boadu who is the Administrator of GETFUND has debunked what is in the news that GETFund has borrowed 1.5 million dollars and cannot use it for anything.
According to him, Parliament approved the 1.5 million dollars as a ceiling for borrowing but now in their coffers is 3.4 million Ghana cedis.

He added that GetFund the statement that “GETFUND has abandoned this project, GETFund has abandoned this project” is not true.
He said their role is only to fund projects and not award contracts.
Dr Ampofo Boadu said usually projects stall because of procurement issues and the decision of a contractor to discontinue the project.
He however urged the students and all the stakeholders gathered to have faith in GETFUND as they exist to provide infrastructure, quality education and facilities that will help build Ghana’s educational sector.
Briefing ATL FM NEWS, on the congress, the Press Secretary of the Union, Emmanuel Nana Yaw Gyimah indicated that as a student representative body, it is their hope that as the government interacts with them and let the assembly in on “the way forward for education in the country from Nursery and Kindergarten to the Tertiary Level.”
About 600 delegates are expected at the ceremony.
