Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has asked the University of Ghana (UG) Management to comply with the 15% increase in tertiary fees.
The Education Ministry’s instruction comes after a meeting with all public institutions on Thursday to discuss the tertiary fees issue.
It may be noted that the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) instructed all public tertiary institutions to increase fees by a maximum of 15% for the next academic year.
However, some University of Ghana students have accused the school’s administration of collecting more than the permitted rates for the next academic year.

According to the Ministry, its investigations revealed that UG is implementing a 37% fee increase.
The University stated that it will convene its Council to discuss the 15% increase and how realistic it is for the institution to execute.
“We have also heard from the University of Cape Coast about fees that they have taken in cases where fees were over 15%, they are doing refunds. They want to move within the 15% as mandated by Parliament,” Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum told JoyNews after the meeting on Thursday.
The instruction on fee charging has been followed by three additional public universities: the University of Cape Coast, the University of Education, Winneba, and the University of Mines and Technology.
