Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, is optimistic that the load shedding exercise in communities served by the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point would be completed today as planned.
The Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) announced an eight-day power outage plan for sections of the national capital last week to enable it to perform maintenance on some GRIDCO facilities.
The Minister was uncertain if the power loss schedule would be extended or not at a news conference.
“For those in Accra who are served by the Pokuase substation, there has been a dumsor timetable, which ECG released and which ends today. I can’t say yes or no right now, but we’re certain that whatever they wanted to do for whatever excuse they came with the schedule, it finishes today.”
The power outages began on Monday, May 10, 2021.
The timeline was required due to continuing construction on the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point, resulting in the need to shut down the transmission line, which was likely to impact the Mallam Bulk Supply Point, which supplies electricity to many households.
Awoshie, Nsakina, Dansoman, Ashalaja, Tuba, Abossey Okai, Dansoman, Tuba, Pokuase ACP Estates, Amasaman, Taifa, Ofankor, Kokrobite, Fadama, Israel, and Abeka market were among the places impacted by the power outages.
