Four people, three Ghanaians and one Chinese person, have been detained for tampering with and installing modified meters from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Wisdom Sewlorm, an agent, accepted the ECG meters for installation. However, his employee, Ernest Afatsawu, altered them and sold them to a Chinese plastic manufacturing business for GH₵1,200.
Rulian Shan, the Chinese firm’s manager, was seized on Friday, August 2, along with his sales manager, Ali Yakubu.
Afatsawu and Sewlorm are now being investigated.
The ECG anticipated a financial loss of around GH₵77,000 between July and August.
Paul Abariga, the Director of Investigation, Prosecution, and Security, has indicated that the four suspects would appear in court on Wednesday.

Furthermore, the agreement with the ECG contractor will be canceled.
“There are meters being installed in many parts of our operational area, and investigations have revealed that some of these meters are tampered with before installation,” Mr. Abariga told Citi FM.
“Based on our findings, we arrested these four people.” At Oblogo near Weija, they were manufacturing plastic bowls using a household meter in a factory.
“We aim to conclude our investigations soon and present them before the court tomorrow,” said the lawyer.
