Residents along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway say heavy dust from ongoing road works is beginning to affect their health and daily lives, as concerns grow over prolonged exposure to the conditions.
The warning comes from the Twafohene of Ekumfi, Nana Mprayem VIII, who says communities along the stretch are constantly exposed to thick dust, making breathing difficult and disrupting normal activities.
According to him, the situation is becoming increasingly serious, especially for children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to respiratory problems.
Daily Exposure Raising Health Concerns
Residents say the dust has become a constant presence, affecting:
- Breathing and general comfort
- Visibility along the road
- Day-to-day activities in nearby communities
Health concerns are now growing, with fears that continued exposure could lead to long-term respiratory illnesses if the situation is not addressed.

Road Conditions Adding to the Problem
Beyond the dust, sections of the highway remain unmotorable, leading to delays and discomfort for motorists.
Drivers are dealing with:
- Slow movement along affected stretches
- Poor road surfaces
- Reduced visibility caused by dust
The combined effect is placing pressure on both commuters and residents, who rely heavily on the road.
Call for Immediate Action
Nana Mprayem VIII is urging contractors to take immediate steps to ease the situation, including:
- Opening completed sections of the road to traffic
- Introducing measures to control dust levels
He believes this will help reduce congestion and limit the health impact on communities while construction continues.
Balancing Development and Safety
While the dualisation project is expected to improve transportation in the long term, residents say more needs to be done to ensure that ongoing work does not come at the cost of public health and safety.
For now, the situation remains a growing concern, as communities continue to cope with the effects of dust and disrupted road conditions.
