Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby, the chief executive officer of the National Health Insurance Authority has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Chief Executive Officer, who revealed this in an interview on Accra based Asaase FM, said she got to know of her status on Sunday and has since then been in self-isolation.
Earlier, the Health Minister, Mr. Kweku Agyemang Manu had also tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was reported to be receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
Narrating her experience, she said, “I just felt tired, quite lot of body pains, muscle ache, headache at the beginning, but not anymore. I asked for a test. I had a colleague at Noguchi, so a team came to the house and tested and I tested positive”, she stated.
Dr. Dsane-Selby mentioned that although, she lives with her mother and house help, none of them after being tested had the virus.
“I immediately self-quarantine and contacted doctors at Korle bu who had put me on a treatment regime so it’s really just rest and various medication”, she revealed.

According to her, she has reached most persons who had come into contact with her recently and is informed that they all tested negative after undergoing the tests. “I keep trying to recall anybody I may have come into contact with in the past few days”, she added.
She added that although she had been a fanatic about the COVID-19 protocols she still got infected and was quick to add that it could have been from the huge traffic of people at her office which gave room for that.
The CEO further cautioned all persons to adhere to the measures outlined by the Ghana Health Service. “We all need to just be very aware about face masks, handwashing, sanitisers and social distancing. There is no meeting that is so important that we all have to bunch up in a room and meet”, she said.
Dr. Dsane – Selby said the National Health Insurance Authority has already been infected while some workers have been tested and awaiting results.
She has advised Ghanaians to desist from stigmatizing persons infected with COVID-19.
Ghana has recorded 223 new cases of the novel coronavirus, shooting the country’s total case count to 12,193, with 58 deaths and 4,326.
