In a dedicated effort to empower young women in tertiary education, Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, Executive Director of the Dora Edu-Buandoh Foundation, has emphasized the importance of building both professional and social skills for future success.
Highlighting the significance of the foundation’s latest program at OLA College of Education, Professor Edu-Buandoh reiterated the foundation’s commitment to providing opportunities for young women to learn from role models through seminars and workshops.
“The essence of this program, especially for young ladies in tertiary education, is to help them build themselves up for their work life ahead and their social development,” said Prof. Edu-Buandoh. “We believe that they will be better women if they have these opportunities to learn from role models. That is why we hold such seminars and workshops.”
Prof. Edu-Buandoh revealed that, while the foundation has ambitious plans to provide financial support for needy students, their current initiatives include rewarding students who excel in English, aligning with their educational goals.
She also noted that the foundation’s activities have attracted positive responses, as evidenced by their first seminar at Komenda College of Education, and that future plans include organizing a seminar at Fosu College of Education, with details to be announced soon.
“We are considering this and plan to return to Komenda College of Education when we secure funding,” she added. “We are also planning a seminar at Fosu College of Education and will announce the date once it is confirmed.”
Additionally, addressing the theme “Empowering Educators: Cultivating Entrepreneurial Mindset and Building Social Skills,” Prof. Theresah Patrine Ennin, a Senior Lecturer of Literature at the University of Cape Coast, underscored the need to understand one’s inherent traits and actively work on improving interpersonal skills.
“Knowing yourself is crucial,” Prof. Ennin stated. “If you realize you are not naturally friendly but understand that you live and interact with people, you need to learn to be friendly. This is something you must consciously work on.”
In an inspiring address, Prof. Mavis Serwaa Benneh Mensah, an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Cape Coast, emphasized the vital role that entrepreneurship can play in developing interpersonal and professional skills.
She pointed out that entrepreneurship equips individuals with problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and the confidence to face various challenges.
