Former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelovo has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) under President Akufo-Addo emphasizing that corruption has reached alarming levels under the current administration, causing frustration among both the general public and government employees.
He noted that widespread suffering and financial struggles are prevalent among citizens, highlighting instances of payments being made for projects that have not commenced.
Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show on July 19, Mr. Domelovo remarked, “Everywhere you look, you will see corruption. You don’t need to look far. Look at the lifestyle of people in government. Some have worked for the government and toiled all their years, but even getting a square meal a day is a challenge for them.”
He further cited an example, saying, “We hear that about 2 million dollars has been paid to a South African company for a sky train project, which never materialized. We also hear that Ghana has dug the most expensive hole in human history. The evidence is there. This is not rhetoric. This is not perception.”
“They know that the level to which they have taken the corruption is alarming,” he stated.
He also observed that corruption appears to be a competition among successive governments, each trying to outdo the other.
“Successive governments seem to be running a marathon or race in corruption, with each taking it to a higher level. The current level is terrible and unsustainable. Something must be done quickly, regardless of the number of days or months left. Corrupt officials must be called out by the government and prosecuted, instead of just pointing out where the evidence is.”
