The Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development (CESED) at the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Rosemond Boohene has advised businesses in Ghana to not only be profit-oriented but also endeavor to go green in their operations.
This, she explains, will help them make strides locally and internationally in the competitive global world of business.
Prof. Rosemond Boohene was speaking in an interview on the Atlantic Wave yesterday during a discussion on the topic “Green Business Development”
She urged businesses to ensure their activities do not negatively impact the environment.
“You know the world is now a global village and I believe that Ghanaian businesses do not want to operate only in Ghana. They may also want to operate only beyond the shores of Ghana and now, what is happening globally is that people are looking for companies that use sustainable materials and marketing activities to deal with”
She added “And so, therefore, there is the need for them to have this green mindset so that they will be able to compete favorably on the market and then in other jurisdiction, if you use sustainable materials to produce materials or to provide those services, then they may even give you task credit for doing that. So, it is very important that whilst we develop our businesses, we also make sure that we don’t impact negatively on the environment, the community, and the society because at the end of the day we want to see a healthy planet”.
