Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have been dared to openly deny that they are engaged in covert lobbying to be elected as presidential candidates for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
There have been calls for all members of the NPP with presidential aspirations to refrain from running right now because the time is not right.
All efforts and energy should be directed toward ensuring that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo succeeds in his second term, according to the party’s leadership.
In a statement released on Thursday, March 18, Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie denied allegations that he was campaigning to be the party’s flag bearer.
“According to the narrators, I spent up to GH 1, 000,000.00 Ghana Cedis at the meeting to announce my candidacy for the role. This is not only wrong, but it may also be the product of the claimant’s imagination.
“I was receiving about 700 delegates after meeting 17 constituency executives for each of the 47 constituencies in my assembly. My house isn’t large enough to host such a large group. How can anyone believe I paid these NPP executives nearly a million Ghana Cedis in one day?” the statement asked.
Bernard Owiredu, a private legal practitioner who is also a member of the NPP, told show host Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day show on Friday March 19 that posters of many party bigwigs are flooding the cyber space lobbying for them to be elected flagbearer.
He claims to have seen posters of Dr. Bawumia and campaign groups founded in Mr. Kyerematen’s name campaigning for them.
However, he claims that these two celebrities have been unable to openly refute their participation in these events.
He challenged them to stand up and “deny” that they aren’t campaigning in secret.

Meanwhile, Mr Gabby Otchere Darko, a senior member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked President Akufo-appointees Addo’s who are preoccupied with their presidential aspirations rather than their job to resign.
He stated that the Akufo-Addo administration currently requires men and women to assist in carrying out its mandate.
He also mentioned that the time for internal elections has not yet arrived.
“The planet is in crisis,” the former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute wrote on Facebook in response to rumors that some appointees were secretly lobbying for their presidential aspirations ahead of the 2024 elections. Ghana is a member of the global community. As a result, Ghana is in a state of emergency. Mr Cabinet Member, which part of this do you not understand? Governments around the world are tasked with combating the virus, economic hardships, the battle for food and employment, debt and deficit reduction, and transformation. “Here in Ghana, we are also fighting for transformation. This is not the time to be securing delegates or votes.”
“If your priority as a member of Akufo-government Addo’s is to fight for your own ambition and transformation, then please feel free to step over to move on,” he added.
Please keep in mind that NPP in control must first succeed before NPP can succeed!
“Build on the current power to avoid being tripped by your priority tripped wires for your own power ride. “Think!
