In an unexpected turn of events during the 2023 District Level Elections (DLE) in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region, electorates in the Teberebe Electoral Area made an adamant decision.
Despite the unfortunate demise of the incumbent Assemblyman, Manasseh Addison Sackey, who tragically drowned in River Bonsa two weeks before the election, voters opted for him.
It is reported that the Electoral Commission (EC) did not remove Manasseh Addison Sackey’s image from the ballot paper and despite the electorate’s awareness of his passing, they still cast their votes in his favour.
The deceased, Manasseh Addison Sackey secured 860 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Bernard Obeng, who garnered 857 votes in an intense competition. The third candidate, Michael Abunyua Dompreh, received 637 votes.
The report according to Oyerepa News emphasized that Mr. George Gyabaah, a former Bono Ahafo EC Boss, has asserted that the EC will likely nullify the election results and conduct a fresh election to choose the Assemblyman for the Teberebe Electoral Area.
