Executive Director of the Dora Edu-Buandoh (DEB) Foundation, Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh has urged female students to choose their career and academic paths wisely as it will aid them to prepare for their future lives.
Speaking at the DEB Foundation 2023 Young People’s Seminar at the Komenda College of Education, she, however, emphasized the need for female students to be always prepared for volunteerism in their societies since it is a major way to learn how to give back to society.
In an interview with ATLFM NEWS, at the sidelines, she revealed that volunteerism is not about gaining money and resources but having the will to help others which will eventually lead to skills and opportunity development for future endeavours.
“So, you don’t need to have much to be able to volunteer, it’s not about having money or the resources but having the worth to help somebody else without asking for money. It’s very important because it helps us build our communities and our societies, and you the volunteer also build your skills, it opens doors for you” she continued.
Prof Edu-Buandoh notes that DEB Foundation has as its aim the intention to change the mindset of mainly the youth for the benefit of society.
She said the notion that you ask anybody to do anything for and question the person will ask is ‘what’s in it for me’ must change for the better.
She emphasized saying “we want that question to change to “how can I help you?”. And that is why it is a key pillar of the ‘Dora Edu-Buandoh Foundation’. We’re going to take this seminar to the next one at the University of Cape Coast on the same theme. Then when we move from there we’re going to the third years who are going to finish SHS and come to the universities and speak to them too, because we believe that the transition from SHS to the university, a lot of things happen there and we need to guide them.”
Meanwhile, a level 300 student of the Komenda College of Education, Diana Eshun encouraged young women to always learn to develop skills and competencies needed to help society without expecting anything in return.
This she says will help young and upcoming children to emulate the good works of their predecessors.
The Dora Edu-Buandoh Foundation is a registered private organization with a mission of supporting and inspiring underprivileged female students in higher education from mainly the Central Region of Ghana.
