The Creative Arts Agency (CAA) has initiated the “Play Ghana” campaign, urging Ghanaians to champion local music and make the festive season memorable with vibrant Ghanaian melodies.
This campaign aims to shoot enthusiasm for Ghanaian music, particularly during this festive period, encouraging everyone to play homegrown tunes wherever they go.
Appealing a media briefing on Thursday, December 13, renowned dance hall reggae and hip-hop artist, Emmanuel Andrews Samini, emphasized the importance of embracing and enjoying Ghanaian music to create a captivating atmosphere.
Samini highlighted the opportunity to showcase Ghanaian music to visitors, describing it as a pivotal aspect of promoting the country to international tourists.
He underlined the value of being strategic and intentional about promoting local music while emphasizing the need to prioritize homegrown talent and celebrate Ghana’s unique musical heritage.
“My simple point here is that if we value the people coming in and the influx of the masses coming in, then let’s feed them our own. And I represent music, so let’s feed them our music. It has to be strategic and deliberate, without malice to any other force or any other group. Let’s make sure ours is ours and let’s make it appealing to the masses. This is by drumming it in every other day,” he continued.
Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, the Chief Executive Director of CAA, also stressed the significance of prioritizing Ghanaian artists during the yuletide season.
She emphasized the desire to see local artists prioritized in clubs and on the airwaves, providing an opportunity for travellers to experience the best of Ghanaian music alongside other cultural exports.
She said CAA is committed to collaborating with industry stakeholders and players in music, film, and broadcasting to review local content regulations.
Gyankroma Akufo-Addo advocated for the enhancement of cultural policies and broadcasting regulations to provide more support and amplify Ghanaian music and artists during the Yuletide season.
“So today the CAA is backing the pledge of “Play Ghana”. She said.
The press briefing was attended by prominent figures, stakeholders, and leading personalities in the Creative Arts industry, including Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey; Executive Director of the National Folklore Board, Mrs. Bernice Ann Deh-Kumah; Deputy CEO in charge of Operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Sampson Ekow; Chief Executive Director of the CAA, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo; as well as notable music personalities such as Reggie Rockstone, DJ Mensah, Black Sherif, Small god, and several other esteemed dignitaries.
