The Central Regional Head of Training and Disaster Control Department of NADMO, Enock Kojo Forson has called on the various Assemblies in the Cape Coast Metropolis to collaborate with NADMO to prevent individuals from putting up structures in waterways.
Speaking on ATL FM’s Morning Show, The ATLANTIC WAVE on Monday, Mr. Forson said a joint effort by the district assemblies and NADMO will better position both organizations to monitor individuals, whose building activities could cause flooding.
He said NADMO is still clamoring for the opportunity to have that kind of power to be part of the assembly decision making in terms of allocating lands for structures.
“We are supposed to still work in tandem with the assemblies but we have the opportunity per our current ACTS 927. We have that mandate to demolish and the demolishing is not done just in isolation; it’s done in partnership with the assembly because the assembly has the engineers”, he intimated.
He notes that NADMO’s core mandate is largely to coordinate and mobilize resources for technical partners to engage in issues of such nature adding that “we draw the attention, we engage our technical partners. When we are done with that process, we expect that the assembly will also take it up.”
Mr. Forson also revealed that his outfit has created safe havens such as the church and school buildings and other facilities that anybody can donate for that temporal moment to shelter persons who may be affected by flood this rainy season.
