At the Kotoka International Airport, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat says its Secretary-General, Wamkele Mene, was sent a false-positive COVID-19 test result.
According to the Secretariat, Mr. Mene passed a routine antigen examination at the Kotoka International Airport after returning from a mission outside the country.
Wamkele Mene, on the other hand, tested negative after two separate samples from various private laboratories.
The original examination performed at the Airport seems to be a false positive finding, according to a statement released by the AfCFTA Secretariat’s Senior Communications Advisor confirming the Secretary-General’s negative status.
“Upon his return from a mission outside the country, H.E Wamkele Mene was subjected to a routine antigen examination at the Kotoka International Airport. COVID-19 was shown to be positive in this antigen test. His Excellency took precautionary measures and went into isolation after getting recommendations and advice from his medical staff following the initial positive test result.”
“His medical staff recommended that he get further separate PCR testing done. As a result, His Excellency underwent two separate examinations from two different private laboratories. The Secretary-General was cleared of COVID-19 after all separate PCR samples came out negative. The COVID-19 antigen test performed at the airport appears to have yielded a false-positive result, according to the statement.
The African Centre for Health Policy Research and Analysis then requested that the government launch an inquiry into the increase in COVID-19 cases in order to verify the accuracy of the findings.
Since checking negative, Mr. Mene is supposed to participate in a variety of activities.
He will take part in the Dispute Settlement Body Committee’s (DSB) Inaugural Meeting, which began on Monday, April 26th, 2021.
On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, the conference will come to a close.
He will also attend the Senior Trade Officials conference from April 29 to May 1, 2021, as well as the Council of Ministers meeting on Monday, May 3rd, 2021.
