The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye has revealed that health workers’ infection of coronavirus across the country has reduced drastically due to the availability of PPE to health facilities.
According to Dr Kumah-Aboagye, the high rate of infection among health workers in the country is a normal phenomenon especially in the initial stages of every pandemic. He, however, indicated that the situation is normalising due to the significant reduction in recorded cases among health workers
“A significant number of cases have recovered telling you that of-late, health worker infection has reduced drastically. almost all the health workers in the various regions who got infected have recovered which means that they are also not recording any new health worker infection in the last few days. The PPE availability has significantly improved and that is bearing fruit of lower infections among health workers” he explained
Speaking at the Ministry of Information Press Briefing on Covid-19 update. Dr Kumah Aboagye revealed that a total of two thousand and sixty-five (2,065) health workers have been infected with the virus. One thousand, eight hundred and seventy(1,870) have recovered and resumed normal duties with One hundred and eighty-three (183) in isolation centres receiving treatment. Six (6) health workers have sadly died according to the Ghana Health Service.

Giving the breakdown of health workers infections in regions that high record cases, Dr Patric Kumah-Aboagye said the Central Region has recorded two hundred and ninety-five (295) cases with two hundred and sixty-four (264) recoveries who are currently at post. Thirty-One (31) of the infections are active cases.
The Eastern Region he indicated recorded three hundred and forty-three (343) cases, three hundred and seven (307) have recovered with thirty-six (36) active cases. The Greater Accra Region has the highest number of case infections with Five hundred and eighty-eight (588) recorded cases. Five Hundred and thirty-six (536) have recovered, forty-nine (49) active cases and three (3) deaths.
Currently Ghana has recorded six hundred and ninety five new cases in a period of three weeks bringing the total active case count to three thousand seven hundred and sixteen. The recovery rate is twenty two thousand two hundred and seventy (22, 270) while the number of deaths remain at One hundred and thirty nine(139).
Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye described the latest figures as a downward turn in the recorded cases which is a positive sign.
