Ghana will today February 24, 2021 receive its first batch of the COVID-19 vaccines according to a press statement from the Ministry of Information.
The expected consignment will arrive at the Kotoka International Airport at 7:00 am.
Government officials are expected to receive the consignment in a televised ceremony at the Kotoka International Airport at 7:00am.
The roll out of the first batch of the vaccination will target a “segmented population including persons with underlying conditions and health workers.

According to the Programme Manager for the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), Dr. Amponsah-Achiano, these persons need to be vaccinated first because they are at a higher risk of either contracting the virus or succumbing to it.
With the vaccines expected to be to have a storage temperature of 22°C there have been growing concerns over the viability of logistics to provide these storage tempreture.
Meanwhile, a Senior Merdical Officer at the Lekma Hospital Dr. Emmanuel Amankrah says even though one cannot rule out that there are some health facilities in some parts of the country faced with infrastructure challenges, a central plan by government has been put in place for effective storage and distribution.
On his part, Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association Dr. Titus Beyou wants a monitoring system put in place alongside the roll out plan to help report any form of storage issues for thorough investigation.
Meanwhile the immediate past General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong says although there some level of apprehension among the Ghanaians populace, continuous education and sensitization will encourage them to embrace the vaccination exercise as they have for other vaccines roll out.
