The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) is urging residents and traders to cooperate with city authorities as it intensifies efforts to decongest the Cape Coast Metropolis.
This appeal follows a major decongestion exercise conducted on Monday, March 2, 2026, across key areas of the city.
Areas covered included the Cape Coast Castle enclave, Anaafo, Ntsin, Ashanti Road, and Brofoyedur—identified as congestion hotspots within the metropolis.

The exercise forms part of measures to improve traffic flow, enhance public safety, and promote orderly trading.
The operation targeted traders occupying road lanes and pedestrian walkways, as well as the removal of illegally parked and abandoned vehicles, including broken-down cars and tricycles.
Authorities say these obstructions pose serious risks to both motorists and pedestrians.
The exercise was undertaken in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, the Metro Environmental Department, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), alongside City Guard officers and Community Police personnel.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, Emmanuel Forson, Environmental Health Analyst at CCMA, explained that the initiative is necessary to reduce congestion, prevent accidents, and improve sanitation.
He clarified that the exercise is not intended to punish traders but to restore order and ensure compliance with city by-laws.
“We are compelled to carry out this exercise to ensure proper road usage and prioritize sanitation within the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly,” he stated.
Mr. Forson further assured residents that the exercise will continue throughout the week as the Assembly works to address congestion and sanitation challenges across the metropolis.
The Assembly has therefore called on the public to support the initiative, emphasizing that it aims to enhance vehicular movement, improve sanitation practices, and maintain order in the city.
Meanwhile, some residents have commended the Assembly for the exercise, expressing hope that it will be sustained and not become a “nine-day wonder.”
They also appealed to authorities to extend the exercise to other parts of the metropolis experiencing similar congestion challenges.
