Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has passed away at age 72.
She died at Ridge Hospital in Accra on Monday at 10 p.m., hours after being admitted around 7 p.m.
Reports from graphic.com.gh indicate that she initially sought medical attention at the Nsawam Government Hospital in the Eastern Region for respiratory issues before being referred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital).
Akua Donkor, who was third on the ballot for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, was known for her outspoken personality, humour, and enthusiasm for the campaign.
As founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), she was a familiar face at Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.
Born in February 1952 in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, Akua Donkor often proudly identified as a cocoa farmer and openly shared her lack of formal education.
Throughout her political career, she advocated for accessible education, free ports in Tema, support for local production, and resources for women entrepreneurs.
Her vibrant personality and lively commentary will be missed by many who enjoyed her appearances on television, radio, and social media.
