Despite some Ghanaians’ objections, President Akufo-Addo has stated that the National Cathedral will be built.
No matter what, he said, the National Cathedral project would be far along the way by the time he (the President) leaves office.
On January 10, he revealed this at a New Year’s Service at Jubilee House with pastors from many Ghanaian denominations.
“…I am very encouraged by your words on the National Cathedral. I am very determined that come what may, I have two more years, whatever the case, the National Cathedral will be at a very advanced stage before I leave office. I think it is important that we do it.”
“There will be critics, I think we have to take it as they are all part of life. But it should not be a sign of discouragement to us to be able to go forward,” he added.
Even though the nation is struggling, President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism that his administration will be able to reverse the situation through hard work.

“Yes times are difficult but difficult times also call for resolution, they call for strength, they call for commitment. And that is what hopefully, I am sure that with determination, that, come what may, my government will work our way out of the difficulties we have in this country,” he added.
“It is not permanent, Ghana is a land with many possibilities, and even though we are caught up in a global situation like many other countries, we can still find our way forward. And that’s my determination.” he ended.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of the Anglican Church in charge of the province of West Africa, Rev. Dr. Cyril Ben Smith has also backed the President’s relentless desire to build the national cathedral.
According to him, God is faithful to see to it that the President’s promise to build a cathedral comes to pass.
He thus encouraged the President to proceed with his promise to God.
“Your Excellency, your building of the national cathedral is a long testimony of your devotion to God and no matter what the naysayers say it will happen,” he said.
