The College of Education Studies, University of Cape Coast has launched the adoption of schools project as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The adoption project is aimed at promoting continuous learning by supporting adopted schools with the needed professional and financial resources to help them improve academic performances.
A total of 17 schools comprising 14 basic schools and 3 senior high schools mainly from the Cape Coast Metropolis have been identified and adopted in the initial phase of the project.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor at the launch of the project, the Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Professor Francis Eric Amoquandoh said such initiative is timely considering the worrying decline in the performance of schools in the region.
This he said is unacceptable and becomes a responsibility of the university to help salvage the situation hence the importance of this adoption of a school’s project.

“This will help identify where the problem lies and help turn the situation on to its Normal position so the Cape Coast and central region will be counted as the among the leaders when it comes to education.” He said
The Provost of the College of Education Studies, Professor Earnest Kofi Davis disclosed the college has plans to adopt more schools and hence called on individuals and benevolent bodies to support the college expand the program.
“We have started with small number of schools mainly within the cape coast metropolitan area because of limited funding. The project is currently being funded by departments and centers within the college. When we get funding, we will scale it up. We therefore appeal to funding bodies that are interested in student learning outcomes in education to come to our aid to enable us scale up the project.”
On her part, the Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs Martha Owusu Agyeman in a remark read on her behalf commended the college for the impressive initiative and reiterated the regional education office’s commitment to support and help sustain the project.
