The Central Regional Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah has admonished all institutions including parents, organizational heads and the media to work collectively to ensure national service personnel take their jobs seriously.
According to him, the scheme assists new graduates and equips them with skills essential in their field of work.
However, he said some people fail to uphold their responsibility and neglect their work altogether.
Nonetheless, to prevent these behaviours from continuing, the director revealed that the authorities of the scheme are doing all that they can to ensure national service personnel put much effort into their work,
“As an institution, we randomly check on personnel at their workplaces to ensure they take their work seriously. But in all, I believe it is by advising them, for if they understand that they stand to gain more from the scheme, we will achieve the desired outcome.”
Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah pleaded with especially parents to question and advise their wards who refuse to leave home to work.
“We are all building a nation and as the adage goes, a lazy hand must not eat, so if you don’t go to work, don’t expect to be paid by the end of the month,” he continued.
Mr. Mensah also called on institutional heads to work collectively with the scheme to report any deviant behaviours among personnel.
He also tasked the media to visit offices to ascertain for themselves, the assertion that some NSS personnel neglect their work.
To him, such reports could also help develop the right attitudes towards work among the personnel.
