In a thrilling match between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, Cole Palmer’s stoppage-time penalty kept the former team from winning.
Fortunes turned in a high-quality game played in dangerous conditions.
With four minutes remaining, Thiago Silva’s effort from the edge of the area beat Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, giving City the impression that they had won three points.
Palmer, a £40 million summer addition from Pep Guardiola’s team, maintained composure in the face of chaos to beat Ederson from the penalty spot, moving City just one point ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League. Chelsea showed amazing resilience and were not going to be defeated.
After a fierce 25 minutes, the defending champions took the lead when Marc Cucurella’s tug on Erling Haaland resulted in a penalty kick, despite Chelsea’s objections that the full-back had been fouled first.

Haaland dispatched the penalty with ease, but the hosts were level four minutes later when Brazil centre-back Silva glanced home Conor Gallagher’s corner at the near post.
After 37 minutes, Raheem Sterling scored against his old team for Chelsea, converting Reece James’ cross following a mistake by Josko Gvardiol. This allowed Chelsea to take the lead.
But when Manuel Akanji, unmarked, headed in a cross from Bernardo Silva, City leveled at the half.
After a two-minute intermission, Haaland’s header from Julian Alvarez’s cross at the far post gave City another lead.
However, Chelsea struck back once more, and in the 67th minute, Nicolas Jackson scored a well-deserved equalizer after Ederson parried Gallagher’s low drive.
Rodri’s lucky break gave Guardiola’s team the impression that they had won, but the dramatic late penalty kick ended an exciting and memorable match.
After defender Ruben Dias fouled Chelsea replacement Armando Broja, Palmer’s calm finish knotted the game.
