The Center of Awareness Global Peace Mission (COAGPM) has held its 4th Public lecture with a call on world leaders and stakeholders to work together to help achieve global peace.
The event, held at the University of Cape Coast on April 10, 2022, was also to unveil a 5-year strategic action plan that would serve as a roadmap for achieving world peace.
Speaking on the theme: Targeting Leadership across the Globe to Achieve Global Peace, President General of COAGPM, Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan emphasized that peace is an essential component of every nation’s development, hence it is important that leaders strive to attain peace at all cost.
He said, “Leaders play a lot of roles…they are the people we appointed into power and we expect them to protect us and give us the peace that we need, to give us the enabling environment to live. World leaders must come together and create the peace we want”.
He also indicated that the world’s insecurity is the product of man’s deeds such as hatred, discrimination, lies, and acrimony among others, and in order to attain global peace, every individual must love one another regardless of religion gender, or race.
Prof. Duncan, therefore, urged all world leaders to come on board and partner COAGPM to ensure that the goal of attaining world peace is realized globally.
“We are saying that leadership of this world should listen to us and let us start building peace and let us see ourselves as brothers and sisters and make sure that wars end,” he stated.
The Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, on her part, commended Prof. Duncan and his organization for championing such an initiative in the nation.
She noted that Peacebuilding is an important antidote to security, social and economic justice, societal cohesion, harmony, and above all development in every facet of human life.
“We wish to assure you of the regional council’s support and partnership towards our common quest for sustainable national development,” she said.
Mr. Roland Affail Monney, President of the Ghana Journalist Association also called on the media to contribute their quota to the cause of world peace adding that in doing so, they must not jeopardize the nation’s peace or stability.
“As a catalyst of peace the time has come for the media to accord topmost priority to conflict resolution journalism,” he said.
He further urged media practitioners to saturate both online and offline platforms with peace-related programs.
5-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN
The selfless movement committed to bringing global peace to the world within a five-year period has been allocated over $2million.
Prof. Duncan hinted that in achieving the mandate proposed in the strategic plan, a 12-member council of elders will be appointed with the President-General of the mission being the presiding overseer
According to him, to ensure efficiency and effective collaboration, each region shall be under the directorship of a member of the council of elders who will coordinate the activities of the regional representatives appointed by the President-General as president of regional branches of COAGPMS.
Prof. Duncan notes that a major function of the regional presidents will be the formation of peace groups and clubs in their respective regions and membership shall be voluntary.
To realize the vision, COAGPM has mobilized some resources over the years, however, in the next five years, the center hopes to acquire a helicopter and a private jet to support its international secretariat.
Also, an ultramodern office complex will be built to host the secretariat.
History
The COAGPM is a non-governmental, non- Sectoral and non- Religious Organization founded in the year 1988 but registered on July 25, 2000.
