Kwasi Appiah, the former head coach of the Ghana national football team (Black Stars) and currently the head coach of the Sudan national team, has decided to temporarily step down from his role as a member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) until the end of November 2024.
Appiah’s decision follows concerns expressed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which reached out to the GFA about possible conflicts of interest stemming from his simultaneous positions in national and club football governance. In his statement, Appiah emphasized the importance of steering clear of any perceived biases or conflicts that might compromise his integrity as a coach and the decision-making processes of the GFA. He emphasized the significance of upholding transparency and fairness, particularly in a competitive setting like the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Since the start of the AFCON qualifiers, Appiah has actively removed himself from all Executive Council meetings and decisions. This measure seeks to clarify that his responsibilities as a coach are separate from his former governance role, enabling him to focus entirely on his duties with the Sudan national team without the potential complications of involvement in GFA’s administrative issues.
