The Forestry Commission has declared a ban on hunting and trapping wild animals, which will go into force on August 1, 2021.
The restriction will be in effect until December 1, 2021.
The restriction, known as the “Close Season,” is enacted each year in line with Wildlife Conservation Regulation 197, LI 685.
The Forestry Commission stated in a statement that anybody who disobeys the prohibition would be held accountable.
While hunting, capturing or killing any animal will be prohibited at this time, a special license may be granted to those who wish to hunt grass-cutter, also known as ‘Akrantie.’
“In accordance with the Wildlife Conservation Regulation 1971, LI 685, the yearly prohibition on hunting, collecting, and killing wild animals known as “Close Season” starts on August 1, 2021 and concludes on December 1, 2021.”

“It must be prohibited for anybody to hunt, capture, or kill any wild animal during this time, with the exception of the grass cutter (Akrantie), which may only be done under the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission’s Licence.”
The Forestry Commission has declared a Closed Season every year in order to slow the rapid loss of wildlife in the country’s forests.
The Forestry Commission believes that the country’s biodiversity is being destroyed as a result of encroachment, illicit mining, forest degradation, and unrestricted hunting, among other things.
It has been noted that the country’s wildlife loss must be reversed in order to preserve human livelihood and Ghana’s history.
