The leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG), failed to appear before the National Labour Commission (NLC) for a scheduled hearing on their concerns yesterday.
CLOGSAG has raised issues with the composition of the NLC, stating that it is not properly constituted, therefore, challenging its authority.
Due to their absence, the NLC has postponed the hearing to next week.
In response, the Commission plans to address CLOGSAG’s concerns about its legitimacy officially.
The NLC described the strike as unfortunate and directed CLOSSAG to call off the strike.
“It’s an unfortunate development and I think that is contemptuous of the commission, because especially the case where this meeting was summoned at their instance. In any case, as the commission, we are not part of whatever they are doing there, but whatever development that has happened there that has occasioned the CLOGSAG staff to threaten and proceed on strike is what the commission is interested in and would want to have it settled.”
Speaking to the media, the Executive Secretary of NLC, Mr. Ofosu Asamoahspeaking mentioned that CLOGSAG received a letter challenging the composition of the membership of the committee which included CLOGSAG, the Ghana Federation of Labour, the TUC, and ICU
He noted that all the known labour unions met and nominated the people.
CLOGSAG is demanding the implementation of a new salary structure for its members. The resolution of this issue remains a critical point of interest.
