Former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor has indicated his interest in assuming the managerial role at Asante Kotoko, expressing readiness to seize the opportunity while acknowledging the club’s esteemed reputation. Speaking with Akoma FM, Akonnor underscored his ongoing endeavors to augment his football knowledge, illustrating his dedication to continual growth. He modestly recognizes that the ultimate decision rests with the club and the specifics of the offer extended to him.
As the Porcupine Warriors struggle in the Ghana Premier League, securing only one point from their last seven matches, calls have emerged for the dismissal of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. Akonnor’s remarks reveal a combination of aspiration and humility, as he remains receptive to potentially leading Kotoko, all the while understanding the club’s profound significance in Ghanaian football.
He stated, “As I mentioned, I traveled to gain additional knowledge about the game, so right now I’m continuing to educate myself in that area. I haven’t given up, but everything will depend on the opportunity and the offer; I cannot say I’m bigger than Kotoko.” His statements reflect deep respect for the Kotoko institution and a readiness to embrace the challenge of steering the team to greater accomplishments.
Akonnor previously served as coach of the Porcupine Warriors from 2018 to 2019, during which he guided them to victory in the NC Special Competition and into the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
