The Chartered Institute of Administrators & Management Consultants, CIAMC has held its third annual administration professionals conference in Accra with a call on members to cultivate the attitude of humility at the workplace.
The conference on the theme, ‘Health, wellbeing and productivity in the workplace’ brought together heads and administrators of various institutions in the country and was aimed at recognizing the pivotal role secretaries, office managers, administrative executives and officers play in the success and survival of organizations in today’s challenging business environment.
In an address, the Chairman of CIAMC Board of Trustees, Paul Kwatei Hammond said it has become imperative and appropriate to give much attention to the health and wellbeing of workers following the discomfort of the COVID 19 pandemic brought.
He noted that the theme which reflects recognition of the power of wellbeing of employees in administration was apt.
In a remark, Member of Council of State, Hon. Sam Okudzeto urged participants to cultivate the attitude of humility at the workplace and have the desire to work to earn.
“You need that level of humility and that the desire to work to earn and you must work so as to earn respect. Let us change our attitude and let the joy of working to achieve excellence be inspiring in you all the time”, he said.
On his part, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye indicated that the health and wellbeing of employees is an important asset that influences productivity. He, therefore, called on heads of institutions to take particular interest in the wellbeing of employees.
“The state of Physical health and safety in Ghana is not encouraging. Ghana’s economy still consists of medium and small-scale enterprises which are informally based with over 80% of employees reported to be in this sector. Most sectors do not have adequate employee health and well-being programmes in place. Where are we on the road to improve the physical health of workers and how we can play our parts as employees”, he remarked
Relatedly, Psychologist and Human Resource Specialist, Professor Kwesi Amponsah Tawiah also stressed the need for administrators to better position employees according to their capacity in order to avoid unnecessary stress and discomfort at work.
